Overview
Industrial symbiosis can support the green transition by enabling more efficient use and sharing of materials, energy, water, infrastructure and other resources across companies and sectors. Although numerous industrial symbiosis initiatives already exist in Europe, making such cooperation easier to replicate and scale requires greater alignment in terminology, data, technical requirements, methods and implementation approaches.
The European RISERS project – A Roadmap for Industrial Symbiosis Standardisation for Efficient Resource Sharing – explored how standardisation can help address these challenges and support the wider uptake of industrial symbiosis.
Objective: To introduce the RISERS project, explain why standardisation matters for the wider uptake of Industrial Symbiosis, present the approach used to identify standardisation needs and develop the Industrial Symbiosis Standardisation Roadmap, and highlight the Roadmap’s main findings and proposed directions for action.
Target audience: Industry representatives, researchers and R&I professionals, standardisation experts, policymakers, public authorities and other stakeholders working on Industrial Symbiosis, circular economy, resource efficiency and related green-transition
topics.
Date and Time: October 20th | 11:00 - 12:00 CEST
- introduce the RISERS project, its objectives and why its work matters for industrial symbiosis,
- explain why common approaches and standardisation are important for wider implementation of industrial symbiosis,
- present the process used to develop the RISERS Industrial Symbiosis Standardisation Roadmap, including analysis of industrial symbiosis cases and priority synergies, existing standards and Technical Committees, R&I evidence, and
policy and regulatory conditions, - present the RISERS Industrial Symbiosis Standardisation Roadmap, including the main horizontal, sector-specific and system-level standardisation needs identified and the proposed directions for future action,
- highlight the roles of standardisation organisations, industry, research and innovation actors, and policymakers in taking the Roadmap forward.
