The European Committee for Standardization, CEN, works to build a safer, more sustainable and competitive Europe through European Standardisation. CEN brings together the national standardisation bodies of the EU Member States plus Iceland, Norway, Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey and United Kingdom. The work of CEN covers a wide range of sectors and includes air and space, chemicals, construction, consumer products, defence and security, energy, the environment, food and feed, health and safety, healthcare, ICT, machinery, materials, pressure equipment, services, smart living, transport and packaging.
CEN is recognised by the EU and the EFTA as one of the organisations responsible for developing voluntary standards in Europe together with ETSI and CENELEC. CEN and CENELEC are supported by a common Management Centre tasked with the coordination of all CEN and CENELEC activities. CEN also promotes international standardization though an agreement for technical co-operation with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
EDU4Standards plays an important role in CEN’s efforts to raise awareness about the European standardisation and attract a future generation of standardisation experts. Within the project CEN is tasked to carry out the so-called Academic Standardisation Days, which aims to establish links between the academic world and the European standardisation work.
