Sweden

The first Academic Standards Day took place in Stockholm on Friday 21 March 2025. The event focussed on standardisation and standards in the ICT domain with a focus on standards for information- and cyber security.

The event was hosted at the premises of the Swedish Institute for Standards (SIS) and organised together with University of Skövde and support from the National Committee, SEK Svensk Elstandard. Students came from several different universities and were met with refreshments and introduced to standardisation by young professionals from SIS and SEK who also shared their personal career path after university.

During the day several short presentations followed up by panel discussions took place, addressing the topic from many different perspectives. There was an area with videos and posters about standardisation which the students could explore during the mingling breaks. The students were also posed a case to be discussed in mixed groups, which received a lot of positive feedback.

What worked well: A workshop during the event where students were divided in groups to discuss a specific case, the lunch and mingling opportunities, promotion of the event on instagram and follow up e-mail to all students who registered to bring a friend, engaging with universities in a 2h travel distance from the event.

Recommendations: Plan and promote the event as early as possible; takes a while to get the registrations, reach out to professors of the field and get them involved as speakers and inviting their students
